Ellen was interviewing the actress on what it is like being the only female Avenger at the start of the movie and chatting about her working relationship with Evans, when suddenly the actor creeps on to the set.
Johansson jumped out of her skin as Evans shouted "Scarlett!" from behind her chair.
But she takes it well - managing not to swear in shock - and hugs her co-star.
The pair also play a 'Mr and Mrs' style guessing game, covering Johansson's crepe-cooking skills and Evans's time working at Disneyland.
