FBI investigates as 'phantom' cab rides appear on hacked British Uber accounts

The FBI has launched an investigation after 'phantom' cab rides appeared on hacked British accounts.

Although the service has found no evidence of security issues, a number of UK users have claimed money was illegally taken from their Uber accounts, reports.

Uber

was amongst the Uber users to voice their concern.

The television presenter wrote on Twitter: "[Uber] account has been hacked nothing to HELP me on website this is ridiculous."

The news follows speculation that Uber account details were made available to purchase on the 'dark net', allegedly allowing buyers to order fares using other people's accounts.

In other news, Uber's plans to expand its operations in London were recently dealt a blow following reports that mayor Boris Johnson has backed proposals to limit the number of minicabs in the UK capital.

Earlier this week it was also revealed that Uber has begun testing self-driving taxis in Pittsburgh.
