Her first book Anita and Me was published in 1996 and she notably appeared in Goodness Gracious Me and The Kumars at No 42.
She has starred in a number of projects alongside her husband Sanjeev Bhaskar.
Oscar-nominated screenwriter and novelist William Nicholson is also being recognised today, with an OBE for his services to drama and literature.
