The producers were appearing on a panel for the animated series at yesterday's Star Wars Celebration event (April 18).

Digital Spy and others were present at the panel, during which Filoni and Kinberg revealed more about the inspiration behind the series.
"With season one, we were kind of moving beyond Clone Wars, and we were targeting a time period," Filoni commented. "We knew that we wanted to work between Episode III and IV, so the main theme there really was the rebels.
"Something we all wanted to explore was – what about a Jedi kid who grows up and there is no Jedi order who finds him. We formulated a story based on that boy, and Simon [Kinberg] wanted it to have that dynamic of living on a ship.
"All of the things that we had grown up with in the era of A New Hope - that sense of a group of friends feeling like a family, being chased by the Galactic Empire - all of those things are very different ingredients to what we'd done on Clone Wars."

Kinberg also added that the pair wanted to pay homage to the original trilogy with Star Wars Rebels.
"The thing that was the most important to us, other than time period and this notion of sort of creating a family, was the tone and making it as much like the original films as we could," he said.
"The velocity of those original movies, as much as anything story-wise, that was the vibe of the show. We spent a lot of time trying to create [that vibe]. Dave and all of our artists did a fantastic job in creating an aesthetic that feels like the original films, but has its own aesthetic to it as well. It's based on the original art."
The second season of Star Wars Rebels will begin with a special hour-long movie event on Disney XD this summer.
